Dorottya Maksay, student of EIT ICT Labs Master School received Infopark’s Special Innovation Award

The winners of the Student Innovative Idea Competition of ELTE were announced at the ELTE Innovation Day on 26 February 2014. The competition, jointly organised by ELTE Center for Innovation, Technology Transfer and Grant Affairs, ELTE Student Union and the evopro Ltd. aims to discover new business ideas. Graduate and postgraduate students are eligible and strongly encouraged to participate in this yearly contest, where awardees receive a cash award as well as professional support to realise their ideas in a startup by connecting them with possible business partners. This year's Special Award of Infopark Foundation was awarded to Dorottya Maksay for her Homebuddy project – a social service idea that aims to bring closer younger and older generations with the help of technology.

This project has already received EIT's first-ever ‘CH.A.N.G.E Agents and Next Generation of Entrepreneurs’ Award last November, which was designed to showcase young entrepreneurs of the future that are emerging from education and training programmes of the EIT. Dorottya Maksay was awarded for developing her Homebuddy initiative for a sustainable social enterprise, which provides social interaction and care for elderly people by matching them with students who need accommodation. Students are provided with virtually free housing, and in return they spend two hours each workday helping an older person. This help can include anything from cleaning to gardening, from taking them to the cinema to teaching them about computing.

Further information on the Homebuddy project can be found here.
