The Scouting and Mobility Activity of EIT ICT Labs Budapest Associate Partner Group

On 10 December 2013, the EIT ICT Labs Budapest Associate Partner Group organized an Outreach Workshop, in order to give account of the main results of the 2013 outreach activities (Scouting and Mobility, Startup Activation, and Student Opportunities) and to discuss the plans for 2014. EIT ICT Labs colleagues from the nodes in Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm, and Trento participated in the event, along with major outreach partners of each node, including AppCampus, Technopolis, University of Ljubljana, and University of Zagreb.

In the framework of the Scouting and Mobility activity, EIT ICT Labs Budapest has organized a series of meetings at the Budapest Co-location Centre with representatives of universities from four countries, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Bulgaria, in order to discuss cooperation opportunities related mainly to R&D and education in the framework of the EIT ICT Labs' Outreach Programme.

The Outreach Programme was presented by EIT ICT Labs Budapest in three countries, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Romania. At the event organized by EIT ICT Labs Trento at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, the Director of EIT ICT Labs Budapest, Zoltán Horváth delivered the opening speech, emphasizing the EIT ICT Labs Outreach Programme’s importance in developing partnerships with EU member states not directly connected to the EIT ICT Labs network. At the event How to Web, a conference organized in Bucharest, Romania, EIT ICT Labs Budapest hosted a round table discussion, addressing the question if entrepreneurship can be taught.

During the conference entitled “EIT ICT Labs Outreach: A New Link Between Budapest and Cluj-Napoca” co-organized by EIT ICT Labs Budapest and Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj, Romania, Zoltán Horváth said that the Outreach Programme “means an opportunity also for students, since they can participate in joint master and doctoral programs.” Dorottya Maksay, winner of EIT CH.A.N.G.E. Awards 2013, student of EIT ICT Labs Master School was also present at the event, in order to introduce her award winning startup initiative. Dorottya emphasized that due to the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Minor, she had learnt “how to see the business value in the ideas” and she had become “more open-minded and opened to new business ideas.” Andrei Kelemen, Executive Director of Cluj IT Cluster stated that in their cooperation with EIT ICT Labs, they would be interested “in innovation areas because (…) IT industry in Cluj is now based on outsourcing.”
