The significance of the projects – a wider perspective

The Budapest Associate Partner Group is building an innovation oriented ICT ecosystem in and around Budapest. Zoltán Horváth, the dean of the Faculty of Informatics, University ELTE, and director of the EIT ICT Labs Budapest Associate Partner Group, is optimistic regarding the future of the ICT sector in Hungary. The R&D and innovation projects have an important role to play in this, and the relatively long practice of academic and industrial partnership between ELTE and some of the leading industrial companies is an influential factor, too. Besides this, ELTE and BME offer a variety of ICT programs at both Master and Doctoral levels, and thus ensure a continuous supply of excellent ICT professionals in Hungary. Furthermore, the number of innovation-oriented Hungarian SMEs is on the rise, with ever more young ICT innovators starting a business in Hungary. Finally, all this is coupled with the Hungarian Government’s firm dedication to provide financial and other (e.g. administrative) support to the ICT industry in general, and to the dynamically-developing ICT-related Hungarian SMEs, in particular.

The significance of the projects – a wider perspective

The building of such an ecosystem has a great significance. It brings world recognition to the partners, creates value-added jobs in Hungary and fosters growth and competitiveness on the markets in the entire region. Based on these very favourable developments, Zoltán Horváth also believes that the ICT graduates’ migration will stop in the very near future. Young ICT talents need exciting and challenging tasks with great innovation potential. As Hungary offers more and more of these, after short, temporary stays abroad, the students will increasingly return to Hungary to build a career in Hungary, rather than anywhere else.
