Outreach Programme

In the framework of the Outreach Programme, EIT ICT Labs develops partnerships with those member states of the European Union where the current EIT ICT Labs nodes are not located. Special attention is paid to the member states that do not currently have any EIT KIC presence at all, as well as to the Central and Eastern European countries. The purpose of the programme is to activate startups, to provide opportunities for students, and to empower the academic and research sector in the focus countries.

The programme activates startups by building strong ties to on-going EIT ICT Labs action lines, related innovation programmes and contests, including AppCampus, Startup Sauna, TechPeaks, and Deutsche Telekom Innovation Contest. Startup Activation Berlin 2013 was an idea contest with the purpose of supporting entrepreneurs and early-stage startups from the focus countries of the Outreach Programme. The EIT ICT Labs Budapest Associate Partner Group launched a startup contest called BrassTacks for Central-Eastern European startups, where the best ones could participate in a three-day long workshop at the Budapest Co-Location Centre.

The programme provides opportunities for students by making various scholarship schemes available in order to support talented ICT students from the focus countries to join the EIT ICT Labs Master School. In the framework of the EIT ICT Labs master's programme, students can study at two leading European universities, chosen from 19 universities of 8 countries. The seven technical majors and the minor in Innovation & Entrepreneurship combine ICT education with entrepreneurial skills. The programme is free of charge for EU citizens.

Within the scouting and mobility activity, the programme aims at establishing connections with universities, research institutions, and companies from the focus countries, and helps local researchers, professors and students to become partners of international EIT ICT Labs projects.
